Russia’s brutal attack on civilians on Palm Sunday. Trump’s comment is surprising

On Sunday, April 13, Putin’s henchmen dropped two cluster bombs on the streets of the city of Sumy in northeastern Ukraine. At least 34 people died and 117 were injured. A journalist asked US President Donald Trump for his comment on the attack on civilians. The American leader said that “the Russians made a mistake.”
US President’s Reaction to Russia’s Attack
Trump addressed the missile attack on Sumy aboard Air Force One while returning from Florida to Washington. “I think it was terrible. And I’m told they made a mistake . But I think it’s a terrible thing. I think the whole war is terrible. I think it’s an abuse of power that this war even started,” Trump said, emphasizing that if he were president, “this country (the U.S.) would never have allowed this war to happen.”
When asked to explain the reference to the Russians’ mistake, the president only replied that the Russians “made a mistake.”
– I think it was… – ask them yourselves. This is Biden’s war. This is not my war. This is a war that was fought under Biden (…) I’m just trying to stop it so we can save a lot of lives – he emphasized. – We have millions of dead people who shouldn’t be dead. Think about that. Think about what a rigged election means – added the US president.
Donald Trump suggested that Putin decided to invade Ukraine because he did not respect Biden and “did not get along very well with Zelensky and anyone else.”
Putin bids very high
Asked about his envoy Steve Witkoff’s meeting with Vladimir Putin, Trump said his adviser had “good meetings related to Russia and Ukraine.”
Comments after the shelling of Catfish
Before Trump, the Russian attack was condemned by Ukraine envoy Gen. Keith Kellogg, who wrote on X that the attack “crosses all boundaries of decency.” He also seemed to suggest that it may have been intentional. “As a former military commander, I know about targeting and this (the Sumy attack) is wrong,” he wrote.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio was more reserved, expressing his condolences for the “horrific” Russian attack , adding that it was a “tragic reminder of why President Trump and his administration are spending so much time and effort to try to end this war and achieve a lasting peace.”
The White House commented on the matter only on Sunday evening local time.
Today’s missile attack on Sumy is a stark and stark reminder of why President Donald Trump’s efforts to end this terrible war come at a crucial time. Our hearts go out to the victims, their loved ones, and all those affected,” National Security Council spokesman Brian Hughes said in a statement.
Sunday’s attack on Sumy came two days after U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff met with Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg. The Trump administration has not yet released a statement on the conversation.
