Russia will halt all military operations from 6:00 p.m. Moscow time (5:00 p.m. Polish time) on April 19 until midnight Moscow time on April 21 (11:00 p.m. Polish time), the TASS news agency reported, citing a statement by Vladimir Putin. The decision was announced during a meeting between the Russian president and the head of the General Staff of the Russian military.
Putin expressed hope that Kyiv would respond with a similar gesture.
We assume that the Ukrainian side will follow our example,” he said during a meeting with Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov after the ceasefire was announced.
Vladimir Putin stressed that Kiev’s reaction to the Easter truce will show how sincere its abilities and willingness to participate in peace talks are. It is Ukraine’s attitude that will decide whether the ceasefire will turn into real negotiations and a chance to end the conflict.
The Russian President also assured that Russia has always been ready for negotiations and welcomes the efforts of the US, China and other countries to achieve a just resolution of the conflict in Ukraine.
