Prof. AMU Dr. Hab. Bartosz Korzeniewski, a scientist from the Faculty of Anthropology and Cultural Studies at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, has died. He left behind a rich scientific legacy. His works focused on collective memory, political rituals, and the Holocaust. For his work, Professor Korzeniewski was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta in 2022.

Bartosz Korzeniewski, professor at the Faculty of Anthropology and Cultural Studies at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, passed away” – this is the message posted on the website of the university with which Prof. Bartosz Korzeniewski was associated. The researcher died yesterday, March 18. Who was the Poznań scholar? Professor Bartosz Korzeniewski is an outstanding philosopher from Poznań who left behind a rich scientific legacy.  His works, focusing on collective memory, political rituals and the Holocaust, are still an important contribution to Polish humanities. He was born in 1973. In 2004, he defended his doctorate, and in 2011 he obtained his habilitation. He was a university professor at the Faculty of Anthropology and Cultural Studies at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. He also worked at the Academy of Humanities and Economics in Łódź and at the Institute for Western Affairs.

Professor Korzeniewski was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta in 2022.

His research interests focused on the issues of collective memory, political rituals and interpretation of the Holocaust. In his publications, he analyzed, among others, political rituals of penance, memory of the Holocaust. Professor Korzeniewski’s most important publications include: “Political rituals of penance in the light of cultural changes in late modernity” (2005), “Collective memory in contemporary humanistic discourse” (2005), “Collective memory as a problem of contemporary humanities” (2006). For his scientific activity, Professor Korzeniewski was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta in 2022.
