Donald Trump defends Le Pen again. “Witch hunt”

Donald Trump has once again come to the defense of Marine Le Pen, who was convicted in France of defrauding public funds and banned from running for public office for five years. The US president called the trial of the French right-wing politician a “witch hunt” and appealed on social media to “free Marine Le Pen.”

French right-wing leader Marine Le Pen was sentenced to four years in prison on March 31, including two suspended sentences, and the judge also imposed a five-year ban on the politician from running for public office . This means that Marine Le Pen will be eliminated from the French presidential election in 2027, unless a higher court changes something. Marine Le Pen was convicted of defrauding public funds by fictitiously employing assistants, not for her political activities, but there are still people who consider the verdict to be a way of silencing political opponents. Donald Trump, among others, sided with the French politician. Now, on his social media site Truth, he has once again addressed Le Pen’s case. The US president called the trial of the French right-wing politician a “witch hunt” and appealed on social media to “free Marine Le Pen”. “European leftists (…) are even going so far as to put their political opponents in jail,” Trump wrote. “She suffered losses, but she did not give up, and now, just before a great victory, she has been caught for a minor charge that she probably knew nothing about – to me it sounds like an ‘accounting’ error,” he assessed, adding that “all this is very bad for France and the Great French, no matter which side they are on.”
Marine Le Pen also defended Victor Orban: “Je suis Marine!”
Donald Trump has previously spoken out about Marine Le Pen and compared her current situation to his legal battles before the presidential election. “This is a very important case. I know all about it and many people thought she wouldn’t be convicted of anything. And I don’t know if that means a conviction, but she’s been barred from running for five years, and she’s a leading candidate. It sounds like this country. It sounds a lot like this country,” he added, probably referring to the US under Biden. Earlier, a spokeswoman for the US State Department also defended Le Pen. “As the West, we can’t just talk about democratic values (…) The exclusion of people from the political process is particularly disturbing given the aggressive and corrupt legal campaign being waged here in the United States against President Trump,” said Tammy Bruce. “We support the rights of everyone to express their views in public, whether we agree with them or not,” she added. Voices of support have also come from Hungary and Italy. “Je suis Marine!” (I am a Marine) – wrote Viktor Orban on the X portal.
