German police arrested an alleged stalker of Taylor Swift
The detained man is 34 years-old, originally from the United States.
According to a statement from the Gelsenkirchen police, in western Germany, the individual will remain in custody until Saturday, with the main idea of “avoiding any danger.”
The arrest occurred after the suspect threatened the singer and her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, on social media. According to reports, the threats were made continuously through social networks, which led the police to investigate and locate the suspect.
The arrest took place on July 17, just as the man was trying to enter the concert venue. “As the first investigations could not completely rule out that he presented a danger, the suspect was identified and detained at the access control before the concert,” German police said.
German police assured that, despite the threats, neither Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce, nor the concert attendees were in danger. On Wednesday, around 60,000 people attended the first of three Taylor Swift concerts at the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.
This isn’t the first time Swift has faced issues with stalkers. During the ‘Reputation Stadium Tour’ in 2018, the singer implemented facial recognition technology to keep stalkers away from her.
