Man fatally shot by officers in Huntington Park

HUNTINGTON PARK, Calif. (KABC) — A man is dead after he was shot by officers in Huntington Park early Tuesday morning.
The shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. at Salt Lake Park on Florence Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which is investigating.
Authorities say officers were responding to a report of a person setting a fire at the park. When they arrived, they encountered a man holding a large knife.
It’s not clear what exactly led up to the shooting, but the suspect was struck by gunfire. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“Officers issued multiple verbal commands instructing the individual to drop the weapon,” the sheriff’s department said in a press release. When the man did not comply, officers used a Taser, but it was ineffective, officials said.
An officer-involved shooting occurred, and the man was rushed to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
No officers were injured. The incident remains under investigation.
