Shrek 5 Trailer Sparks Outrage as Fans Seethe with Anger: “What Is This?”

The first trailer for “Shrek 5” has appeared online. Fans are not happy with the look of the animation. There have been many unfavorable comments.

“Shrek” is a children’s fairy tale for many of us. The adventures of the green ogre and his annoying friend the donkey were watched with bated breath by millions of viewers. In total, we have lived to see four parts – the last of them, titled “Shrek Forever”, was supposed to be the end of this story. However, as it turned out, the producers decided to reawaken the hearts of fans. “Shrek 5” will hit theaters at the end of 2026. Universal Pictures decided to publish the first trailer for the long-awaited production. However, there is no delight from fans.

After 16 years since the premiere of “Shrek Forever After”, the beloved ogre will return to cinema screens. On February 27, Universal Pictures published the first trailer for the production. Fans were certainly rubbing their hands with joy, but most were rather – to put it colloquially – “angry”. In just a 28-second shot, we saw a changed animation – completely different from the one we associate with the previous four installments of “Shrek”. This change did not escape the watchful viewers, who commented unfavorably on the fragment.

“What did you do to Shrek?!”, “This is not Shrek”, “What is this supposed to be?”, “The animation is terrible, change it”, “Give us Shrek back!”, “Please don’t do this to Shrek!” – we read in the comments both on Facebook and on the X website. There was no shortage of people who liked the trailer. “The animation is evolving and I think it looks much better than the original”, “I like it” – wrote Internet users. The world premiere of the fifth part of Shrek’s adventures is scheduled for Christmas 2026. It is not yet known exactly what “Shrek 5” will be about. However, from the trailer we can read that in the American version we will hear Mike Myers again as Shrek, Cameron Diaz as Fiona and Eddie Murphy as Donkey. Zendaya has also joined the cast, who will play the teenage daughter of Shrek and Fiona. In the film, we will most likely also see the character of Pinocchio, who appears in a several dozen-second video.
