Teddi Mellencamp seen for the first time since revealing stage 4 cancer battle as she ‘prepares for the worst’

Teddi Mellencamp isn’t letting her devastating recent health update keeping her from living her life.
The 43-year-old former Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills star looked somber as she headed out from her home in Los Angeles on Friday.I
t marked the first time Teddi has been spotted in person since she revealed that her cancer has now progressed to stage 4 earlier this week.
Stage 4 cancer is the most advanced and serious stage of cancer, and it indicates that the cancer has spread beyond its original site to other parts of the body.
She could be seen stopping to take a phone call and sitting down on the curb in what appeared to be an emotional moment.
The reality star — who said this week that she is preparing her children ‘for the worst’ — shared in an interview with Us Weekly that her melanomas have metastasized to her brain and lungs.
‘I had six brain tumors and two lung tumors; they all came from melanoma that metastasized into these tumors inside of my body,’ she told the publication.
Following the interview, Teddi shared that doctors had discovered four additional brain tumors.
Despite the terrible news, she managed to rock a casual-cool look with an intriguing cropped beige cardigan with jacket-like breast pockets.
She contrasted it with a simple black shirt, baggy pale-blue jeans and black Adidas trainers that gave her some skater style.
Teddi blocked out the sun with a tan LA Dodgers baseball cap, and she accessorized with an enormous off-white Balmain tote bag with pink leather trim and straps that was nearly spilling over with her belongings.
She appeared to be waiting for a car to pick her up, but before it arrived she stopped for a phone call and took a seat on the curb next to her driveway.
At one point she concerningly hunched over during the conversation.
Teddi recently showed the strain her latest cancer update has caused in an interaction on Instagram.
After revealing that her cancer had progressed to stage 4, she was inundated with distressing comments from users who speculated that her cancer was now ‘terminal.’
Teddi shared a screenshot of one of those comments with her reply in her Instagram Stories on Thursday.
‘This is so hearbreaking. Typically, stage four cancer is terminal especially with metastasis,’ the commenter wrote. ‘Praying that Teddi heals and is an outlier.’
Although stage 4 cancer has the highest mortality rates compared to early stage and is the most serious, requiring the most significant treatments, it is not always terminal.
These kind of comments make me really sad,’ Teddi responded . ‘I know people are trying to help but heart breaking for me to read.
‘Of course I know the chances but I truly believe with my whole heart. I will beat this and watch my kids graduate,’ she continued defiantly, before adding some much-needed humor. ‘Vent on the pod and have everyone get mad at me. Annoy my siblings by reminding everyone I am the favorite. Etc.’
Teddi shares three children — daughters Slate, 12; and Dove, five; and son Cruz, 10 — with her estranged husband Edwin Arroyave, who has been living with her at their home to help care for their children as she undergoes cancer treatments.
Teddi also looked on the bright side on Thursday when she posted a video of herself ringing a bell at the hospital after getting her ‘graduation papers.’
She wrote that ‘ringing the bell can signify a major phase of treatment,’ and she had just undergone her ‘last day of radiation.’
After reading the plaque by the bell aloud in a halting speech, Teddi rang it three times to cheers from her companions.
She noted in her caption that she now has ‘5 more rounds of immunotherapy to go.’
Given the grim prognosis following her recent health updates, Teddi’s treatment plan has changed, with daughter of John Mellencamp saying: ‘I find out for sure exactly where we stand on June 1. If you need to do another round, if there’s any other surgery, if it’s the end. It’s a hard pill to swallow.
It’s got to be extremely difficult to think about the end.’
‘This is definitely the hardest thing [I’ve faced in my life], but now it feels less hard. When I was in the ICU, it was incredibly difficult because I had no memory. One day, I realized it was my daughter’s birthday, and I couldn’t be there for it; it was really sad. It’s still sad when I can’t be there for my kids the way I’d normally be.’
This comes after the star revealed the Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills castmate who has abandoned her as she fights brain cancer.
Teddi shared that Garcelle Beauvais has not reached out once.
However, she said Kyle Richards has been there for her from the start of her cancer battle in 2022.
Teddi explained that she was having migraines earlier this year which led her to seeking professional medical help and she was diagnosed with six brain tumors and two lung tumors which came from melanoma that had metastasized into the tumors.
The RHOBH alum needed an in at premiere medical facility Cedars-Sinai hospital so she turned to one of her former castmates as she said: ‘We call Kyle [Richards], and we’re like, ‘How do we get into Cedars?’ And she called around and found a way for us to get in. Kyle saved the day.
Teddi has had many Bravo stars support her through her battle, however, she revealed one who has not even sent her a message and another who put their feud aside to reach out.
She said: ‘Garcelle [Beauvais] has not reached out. Dorit [Kemsley] has now. I’m good friends with Erika [Jayne], so she said, ‘Dorit does want to reach out to you now, can she?’
‘I [said], ‘don’t know how quick I’ll be to forgive, but sure.’ But then her message was so nice that I have to say we’ll probably be fine.’
Last week, Garcelle announced her departure from the Bravo reality series after five seasons beginning in 2020.
Teddi went on to reveal other Housewives who have rallied around her including the aforementioned Kyle.
The star said: ‘Kyle has been there nonstop. My favorite part about Vicki [Gunvalson] reaching out is she sent a Housewives coloring book that I’m not in. [Laughs]
‘Denise [Richards] reached out, which was also a little bit of a shocker.’
The RHOBH alum, who previously said she felt she was on her ‘deathbed’, has already undergone more than 20 surgeries during her two and a half year cancer battle.
She was initially diagnosed with melanoma but now it has spread and she recently underwent surgery to remove four tumors from her brain.
Earlier this month, more tumors were discovered in her brain and lungs which has caused the daughter of rocker John Mellencamp to face the reality that her daughters Slate, 12, and Dove, five, and son Cruz, 10, may have to face life without her in the very near future.
‘Teddi is a fighter – anyone who has watched Real Housewives can attest to that,’ Radar reported.
But it just saps her fighting spirit to think she had beaten this, only to receive another horrible diagnosis.
‘She had told her children that mommy’s sick, but she is going to be okay, and now it’s tearing her up to lay out the dark truth to them.
‘Teddi does her very best to remain optimistic through her ordeals, but her main thought is with her family and beating this cancer for their sake.’
The outlet reported that oncologist Dr. Jerome Spunberg said Teddi ‘faces a grim future of painful treatments and likely a tragic end.’
Spunberg has not treated Teddi’s cancer, but her said, ‘Melanoma is just notorious for spreading, and more times than not, more tumors pop up even as doctors treat the existing ones.
‘She’s likely facing a period of very serious and painful medical ordeals, and the cure rate, unfortunately, is very low.’
DailyMail.com has contacted representatives for further comment.
Teddi took to Instagram on Saturday evening to share that she’s struggling with eye pain due to swelling.
First, the mom-of-three posted a photo of daughter Dove playing with her ‘bestie’ on a trampoline.
She wrote, ‘Shortly after this [photo was taken] nurse Kel and @lital_aschkenasy iced me up and got me ready to [lie] in silence and the dark because my eye pain comes back same time every day.’
The following post in her Instagram Stories was a video clip showing her resting with a large blue ice pack set on top of her head.
Mellencamp went on to write, ‘Surgery swelling, please go away. I would owe you one.’
In February she publicly shared that doctors discovered multiple brain tumors, resulting in emergency surgery.
The effects of the growing tumors were present for six months before the star finally sought medical attention.
She’d been suffering from migraines but ignored the pain and kept moving forward as she faced other issues in her life, Teddi said earlier this month on her Two Ts in a Pod podcast with Tamra Judge.
I didn’t want to face any of it. And I was like, I just need to keep moving forward. And if I keep moving forward, then everything’s going to be fine,’ she explained about her mindset at the time.
The former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star then detailed her difficult recovery as she spoke about being discharged from the hospital after her February 12th brain operation.
She told listeners that she was forced to take ‘disgusting sodium pills’ because, in order to be discharged, she had to urinate. ‘I couldn’t pee, guys. I do not know why I could not pee,’ Teddi said.
Mellencamp has been candidly documenting her road to recovery and earlier this month she gave her social media followers an update on how she’s faring.
Uploading a selfie, she wrote, ‘Update from my scans today: I have multiple tumors in my brain that weren’t able to be removed via surgery. I also have 2 tumors in my lungs. These are all metastases of my melanoma.
‘The doctors are hopeful that immunotherapy will effectively treat them.’
Showing a touch of humor, she added, ‘I am feeling positive — that I will win this battle, that I got this wig (I like the short hair, just not the bald spots), and that I can remember all of Angelina’s kids’ names.’
She announced her split from her husband of 13 years, Edwin Arroyave, in November.
