Trump lashed out at Zelensky. "Ukraine's situation is tragic"

Donald Trump has criticized the attitude of Volodymyr Zelensky in very harsh words. According to the American president, the leader of Ukraine is blocking the achievement of an agreement with Russia and the conclusion of peace. – The situation of Ukraine is tragic – it can have peace or it can fight for another three years before losing the entire country – Donald Trump wrote on the X platform.

Trump criticizes Zelensky

– Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky boasts on the front page of the Wall Street Journal that “Ukraine will not legally recognize the occupation of Crimea. There is nothing to discuss here.” This statement is very harmful to peace negotiations with Russia , because Crimea was lost years ago under the auspices of President Barack Hussein Obama and is not even a subject of discussion – Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social. As he emphasized, no one is asking Zelensky to recognize Crimea as Russian. – But if he wants Crimea, why didn’t they fight for it 11 years ago, when it was handed over to Russia without a shot being fired? In this area for many years (…) there were major Russian submarine bases – he added. Trump assessed, however, that Zelensky’s statement is provocative and makes it difficult to end the war.

– He has nothing to brag about! Ukraine’s situation is tragic – it can have peace or it can fight for another three years before losing the entire country. (…) Zelensky’s statement today will do nothing but extend the “killing field”, and no one wants that! – wrote the US president. He also assessed that he was “very close to an agreement” and called on Zelensky – whom he called “a man without cards” – to “finally implement it”.

Zelensky on recognizing Crimea as part of Russia

Trump’s comment refers to Zelensky’s statement from a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday , when the Ukrainian president ruled out legal recognition of the occupation of Crimea, indicating that it was against the country’s constitution. According to Axios, among others, recognition of Russian sovereignty over Crimea – but by the US, not Ukraine – is one of the points of the “final” American proposal submitted to Russia and Ukraine. The offer also assumes, among other things, recognition – de facto, not legal – of the Russian occupation of the areas occupied by Russia and the withdrawal of Russian troops from the Kharkiv region, ensuring free navigation on the Dnieper, compensation and the reconstruction of Ukraine, although without specifying the sources of funds for these purposes. As reported by the Washington Post, among others, Kyiv’s cool response to the proposal meant that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio did not go to Wednesday’s talks in London on this topic, lowering the rank of the negotiations.
