Trump stop military aid to Ukraine

The Trump administration has taken steps to curtail military support for Ukraine. According to sources in the Wall Street Journal, funding for new arms purchases for Kiev has been suspended, and a complete suspension of arms transfers from U.S. reserves is currently being considered.

The decision comes after a tense meeting between Presidents Trump and Zelensky at the White House, during which a planned signing ceremony for a mineral rights agreement and a press conference were canceled. Trump publicly criticized Zelensky for his statement about the expected length of the conflict with Russia, calling it “the worst possible statement” and suggesting that “America will not tolerate this much longer.”

Although Secretary of State Marco Rubio signed a document exempting Ukraine from a general freeze on foreign aid introduced in January, the procedure has stalled. Peter Marocco, a senior State Department official, has failed to send the necessary letter to the Pentagon, which effectively blocks the implementation of new arms contracts.

Military experts estimate that at the current pace of military operations, Ukraine’s accumulated stockpiles will be enough until the middle of this year. However, a prolonged suspension of US aid would have serious consequences for Ukraine’s defence capabilities, especially in the field of long-range precision strikes carried out using ATACMS and HIMARS systems, produced exclusively by the United States.

Amid uncertainty about the future of US support, European leaders agreed at the London summit to form a coalition that will present Trump with a peace plan for Ukraine, including the deployment of ground troops and additional military forces.

It is worth noting that the Trump administration has excluded Israel and Egypt from the general freeze on foreign aid. Last Friday, it announced the sending of an arms package worth almost $3 billion to Israel, citing the principle of an emergency exception. By comparison, the last major aid package for Ukraine, worth $1.22 billion, was approved on December 30 by the previous Biden administration.
