Trump warns: “The US has the most powerful weapon in the world. Nobody knows about it!”

Just a week after Donald Trump announced colossal reciprocal tariffs, calling the day he did so “the day we liberated America,” he suddenly withdrew from the idea, arguing that “people got scared, and he wants to be flexible.” The chaos continues, and Trump himself blurted out during a press conference: “We have a weapon that nobody knows what it is, and it’s the most powerful weapon in the world.” What is he talking about?

On April 9, just a week after global markets panicked after Donald Trump announced massive reciprocal tariffs, the U.S. president backed off the idea. Trump announced that since more than 75 countries had approached Washington with offers to negotiate trade and had not retaliated, he had decided to suspend the increased tariff for the rest of the world for 90 days. In the meantime, the basic tariff of 10 percent would remain in effect. “People are jumping the gun a little bit. They’re a little scared, people were afraid,” he said. At the same time, he dismissed suggestions that his sudden changes of heart undermined his credibility, saying he needed “flexibility.” “It’s not about that. It’s about flexibility. I could say, ‘Here’s a wall and I’m going to get through it. I’m going to get through it no matter what. … Sometimes you have to be able to get under the wall, around the wall.’”

Trump: “Our Country Is Much More Powerful Than It Appears”

Donald Trump did not suspend tariffs on China, which he raised to 125 percent. There were immediate concerns that this would cause an escalation of the trade conflict with China. Referring to this during a press conference in the Oval Office, the US president suddenly blurted out: “We are very powerful. This country is very powerful – much more powerful than people realize. We have weapons that no one knows what they are, and they are the most powerful weapons in the world. More powerful than anyone else has, even close.” He also added that “Chinese President Xi Jinping, one of the smartest people in the world, will not escalate this any further. He knows exactly what needs to be done.”

Expert: “Trump doesn’t know what he’s talking about”

The whole situation was commented on by CNN former US National Security Advisor John Bolton. “What Trump is doing is a huge opportunity for China on a global scale. These tariffs are a form of economic illiteracy. Trump has no idea what he’s talking about, he doesn’t know how tariffs work,” he said. He added: “Instead of standing up to a country that has been stealing our intellectual property for decades, uniting our allies who are also suffering from Chinese intellectual property theft, and taking coordinated action, we are at war with our largest trading partners and at the same time going to war with China.”
