PHOTOS: Travis Kelce among multiple Chiefs players to wear shirt in support of suspended WR Rashee Rice: ‘Free 4’

The Kansas City Chiefs are showing support for suspended wideout Rashee Rice. Prior to the team’s Week 2 game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday afternoon, multiple members of the Chiefs wore “Free 4” shirts to pay tribute to Rice.

Star tight end Travis Kelce and wideout Tyquan Thornton were among the players to sport the “Free 4” shirts before the contest.

Rice, 25, is suspended for the first six games of the 2025 NFL season after he was involved in a multi-car crash last year. Rice pleaded guilty to two felony charges related to that crash in July and was sentenced to five years probation and 30 days in jail. The NFL reportedly sought a double-digit suspension for Rice before he accepted a six-game punishment.

Without Rice, the Chiefs dropped their Week 1 game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Xavier Worthy left that contest early due to a shoulder injury, leaving the Chiefs thin at receiver. As a result tight end Travis Kelce and wideout Marquise Brown were the team’s primary targets in the game.

Worthy remains out in Week 2 and it’s unclear when he’ll return. Until then, Kelce and Brown will have to pick up the slack before Rice is eligible to return.

After being selected by the Chiefs in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Rice emerged as a reliable target as a rookie, catching 79 passes for 938 yards and seven touchdowns. He was well on his way to exceeding those numbers last season. In four games, Rice hauled in 24 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns.

But during the team’s fourth game of the 2024 season, Rice sustained a knee injury after colliding with quarterback Patrick Mahomes after an interception. Rice missed the rest of the season due to the injury, though appeared healthy enough in camp to play early in the 2025 season if not for the suspension.
