JUST IN: Rashee Rice accident victim’s lawyer blasts Travis Kelce’s ‘Free 4’ T-shirts, invokes Taylor Swift

Travis Kelce and a Kansas City Chiefs teammate wearing ‘Free 4’ T-shirts, in reference to the suspended Rashee Rice, rubbed a lot of people the wrong way ahead of Sunday’s game.

That included the attorney of one of the victims in Rice’s multi-car crash.

Marc Lenahan, a lawyer representing Kathryn Kuykendall, ripped Kelce and teammate Tyquan Thornton for wearing shirts in support of a player whose actions hurt other people and noted that Rice has not paid any of a $1.1 million settlement owed to his client, via a statement to TMZ.

He invoked Taylor Swift, Kelce’s new fiancée, in the process:

“I respect that Kelce and Thornton support their teammate, but the ‘gym teacher’ needs to talk with the history teacher.”

“Rashee isn’t Nelson Mandela or Pepe Mujica, men who fought for what they believed in. There is evidence that Rashee was going 119 mph in a $1,749 per day Lambo rental that had pot and a pistol in it, on a highway on Easter weekend. Free Rashee? He already thinks he’s getting away scot-free. He’s not paid a single cent of the $1.1 million judgment he already owes our client, who is living anything but pain-free.”

Notably, Rice agreed to his six-game suspension rather than risk an even larger penalty from the NFL. He received the suspension after pleading guilty to two felony charges for the gnarly crash, in which he fled the scene after sending multiple cars spinning on the Dallas highway and sent a couple to the hospital.

Rice ended up receiving five years probation and 30 days in jail.

In the case of Kuykendall, Rice settled a lawsuit for $1 million plus interest in April, but Lenahan said in July that Rice’s camp claimed it wouldn’t be able to make the first $500,000 payment due to a lack of funds.

Lenahan had an idea for how Rice could make the payment before getting that extension, per CBS News:

“I get that banks would seem [Rice] as a bad risk, but Kelce loves him like a brother, and I respect that. Kelce could make that loan and not worry too much about how soon it gets repaid,” Lenahan said, citing Kelce’s purported net worth.

Rice is currently on a $4.7 million rookie contract running through next season, though some of that will be lost to his unpaid suspension. He is in line for a payday soon though, as he has established himself as a regular target for Patrick Mahomes.
