Coco Gauff, Ben Shelton and several other colleagues of Taylor Townsend were thrilled as she clinched her maiden Grand Slam title at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. The American player partnered with World No. 5 Katerina Siniakova to win the women’s doubles event.
Townsend and Siniakova did not earn the desired result in women’s singles; the former lost to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the opener, and the latter was knocked out by Yulia Putintseva in the second round. The pair, though, aced the test in women’s doubles, which was their third tournament together.
After crushing the top-seeded team of Elise Mertens and defending champion Hsieh Su-wei in the semifinals, the Czech-American duo toppled second seeds Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe 7-6 (5), 7-6 (1) on Saturday, July 13.
